Artificial Dyes: US Health and Human Services Secretary R.F. Kennedy Jr has called on major food companies to eliminate artificial dyes from their products by the end of his term in 2029.

Kellogg’s Lawsuit: Ken Paxton, attorney general of Texas, US, has launched an investigation into Kellogg’s for incorrectly marketing its cereals, such as Fruit Loops, as “healthy”.

USDA Lawsuit: The State of Maine sued the US Agriculture Department, arguing that the agency violated the law when it froze funding to Maine, threatening school meal programmes.

Bezos’ Cows: The Jeff Bezos-backed Earth Fund is funding $19 million for an initiative to help identify genetic traits in low-methane emission cattle and sheep, as part of efforts to curb the environmental impact of livestock.

Restaurant Shares: Restaurant stocks fell last Monday, fuelled by investors’ fears that a recession is coming.

Dairy Merger: Arla Foods and DMK Group have announced plans to merge, creating Europe’s largest dairy cooperative with a combined pro forma revenue of €19 billion.

Bird Flu Testing: The US Food and Drug Administration is suspending efforts to improve its bird flu testing of milk, cheese and pet food due to massive staff cuts at the agency.

US Egg Prices: The average price of a dozen eggs more than doubled in March from the year before, Thursday’s Consumer Price Index release showed, climbing above $6 for the first time.

Cal-Maine Earnings: Shares of Cal-Maine Foods – America’s largest egg producer - fell after the company reported disappointing third-quarter results, following a spike in egg prices over recent months that had catapulted its profits higher.

Herbicide Relief: Pharmaceutical and agriculture conglomerate Bayer said it could stop producing the world’s most popular weedkiller - Roundup - unless it gets court protection against lawsuits blaming the herbicide for causing cancer.
